At the Deutsches Filmmuseum in Frankfurt there are interactive stations where visitors can play with film techniques and create their own special effects. My favourite was the green screen.
According to Wikipedia, “a blue or green background in front of which moving subjects are filmed allows a separately filmed background to be added to the final image.” This is known as Chroma key compositing and it is a “special effects technique for compositing two images or video streams together based on colour hues.”
Even though I knew this spider wasn’t really there, the sensation of seeing it climb out of the box behind me was a little creepy!
I can imagine!!!!

We do get some big spiders here, but not like this!

Eek! Seeing that spider behind you would be a little more than creepy. What fun the interactive filmmaking would be. 🙂

It was my husband’s choice to go to this museum and I wasn’t really that fussed on it until we got there. The permanent exhibition was fascinating and the interactive activities were great fun. There were other green screens too but this one was the most effective.

Well, it looks like a fun time. Almost like my Trick Art Museum time in Daegu, South Korea. 🙂

I’d take a spider over a pigeon every time.

I’d take a spider over a snake. Spiders and pigeons don’t worry me, but snakes….yuk.

What a special effect that was.

It’s pretty amazing really. You wouldn’t catch me anywhere near a spider that size for real!

Great effect – though it would have creeped me out a little 😉

It was fun. There was also a surfboard on huge waves and one of those standing on the top of a skyscraper looking down shots.

Thank you. I can’t take any responsibility for the creativeness, but I will for the cleverness and creepiness. I’m just glad that spider wasn’t real!

You captured the essence of creepy with that spider. Someone commented on your next post about the spider, and I had to go back and look at all the pictures to see what I missed. Had I only known that I just needed to go back a post! I thought I was loosing it as a reader! Love this post! Best selfie out there. 🙂

It was quite a lot of fun standing there and watching myself and the spider. I wouldn’t like to meet him for real though.
