More than 120 000 people call the city of Bruges home and another 3 million visit every year. During the day the atmosphere in the central area around the Markt and its surrounding streets is vibrant, and the shops and cafés hum with activity.
In the evening, after the day-trippers leave, the streets are practically empty. The medieval buildings light up and the carillon in the Belfry continues to play into the night.
It’s simply magical.
Absolutely magnificent architecture! Wow…

So beautiful! I’ve never been to Bruges, but my daughter was there last summer, and said it was really pretty. 🙂

My suggestion – add Bruges to your must-see list!

It looks very pretty, and I like the idea of the carillon plays into the night.

It’s definitely worth a visit. We stayed for a week and there is so much to see and do, including lots of free or very cheap things. My favourite was the coastal tram.

It’s amazing to me how festive European cities can be at night, Carol. Whenever I’ve traveled in Europe, I feel perfectly comfortable wandering around at night, unlike I do here in the U.S. Lovely festive pictures. 🙂

We felt very safe wandering in Bruges at night, but we were very careful to be where others were. It’s lovely how everyone is out and about in the evenings.
