Fondly known as the River City, Brisbane is defined by the broad stretches and tight bends of the Brisbane River. The 76 year old Story Bridge is one of 15 crossings connecting both sides of the city. Many watercraft use the river each day, including the paddle boat Kookaburra Queen: the view from her deck is perfect.

That’s an amazing photo – full of shapes, angles and juxtapositions – it makes the city look really intriguing!

I’m pleased you like it. I like the way the water is dripping off the paddle as it goes round. Brisbane is a great city to visit and the weather is almost always perfect.

Thanks for another of your photos that show a different side of Australia. The Brisbane river certainly has enough bends – like a snake across the country.
With Australia having all that space (as I think of it from here in the UK) I wasn’t expecting high-rise buildings.
And I thought about global warming and the rise in sea level –

All the capital cities have their share of high rise buildings, David. I doubt that Brisbane would be in any danger from rising sea levels and the buildings aren’t as close to the water as they look in this photo. But there have been several major floods in times of heavy rain. The most recent was in 2011. This site has some interesting photos. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-01-10/queensland-floods-2011-timeline/7035258

Nice angle! I have seen that paddle steamer – assuming there is only one!

I think there are two boats but they look the same. They are on the river every day.

I have been on a paddle boat one time many years ago, but I remember it was a wonderful afternoon of cruising on the muddy Mississippi. Great photos. 🙂

Thanks Judy. We enjoyed this cruise and a buffet lunch was included.

Great photo and perfect for the theme. I’ve never been on a paddle steamer – something else for my list!

This one is particularly nice, as they have lunch and dinner cruises so you can have a nice meal and enjoy the river and the views.

The paddle boat is a restaurant, so we went on a lunchtime river cruise with a buffet lunch included. It was a very nice way to spend a day.

Oh, it was a restaurant. Was the buffet good? I’m sure it was a great experience all around! It sounds like something I’d enjoy for sure. Anything where food is involved…. 🙂

They do lunch and dinner cruises so you spend about four hours up and down the river with the meal served in that time. It was very nice.

Beautiful shot. Talking about the river just reminded me of the flood five years ago when they were trying to steer runaway boats and a piece of boardwalk between the bridges as they raced down the river.

Yes, it was all very dramatic. Hopefully Wivenhoe Dam is now better managed, so it won’t reach flood levels again.

Terrific photo. The composition and use of framing with lines from three different objects very clever.
