Exploring England #5
November: Woodland
From our airbnb home just outside Bridport, the rural view was green and serene. Hidden behind a veil of early morning mist, Colmer’s Hill seemed distant and mysterious.
As the mist began to lift, the surrounding woodland became clearer,
and soon the Caledonian pines atop the hill were revealed.

That’s a glorious view! 🙂

Isn’t it! It was amazing how the sky would change, especially in the evenings.

I love those pines at the top. Did you walk up there?

I knew someone would ask that question. We wanted to, but ran out of time. The view would have been great.

I imagine it would have been great, Carol. I know how it is not to have enough time to climb every mountain!

What a lovely peaceful view.

It certainly was, on that side of the building. Sadly, the main road went past on the other side and although there was a giant hedge between the buildings and the road there was constant traffic noise. Where on earth do people in Dorset go at 2 am??

How delightful! We stayed in Bridport – a lovely town.

It is very pretty.

Not as pretty as Ludlow (nor as good a market) IMO, but of course a LOT closer to the coast 😉

We missed market day but the annual hat festival was on while we were there. We would like to have gone to it, but had no idea where on earth to park within walking distance. We saw some hat revellers that evening in the pub at West Bay though.

All of our airbnb homes had great views. We were lucky!

Beautiful. It seems that airbnb homes have worked out well for you. Good to know.

We’ve used many airbnb places and only ever had one that wasn’t satisfactory and its position, right in the centre of Brussels, made up for its lack of cleanliness. We put in a complaint and received a reply with a $30 voucher for our next booking so we were happy with the response.

That’s an excellent response.

I have Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush in my head with all of that mist clearing!

Nice sequence. I see Nomad has already asked our pressing question. So I won’t ask it again. But I will ask this. Did Mr ET run up there? 🙂

Funny you should ask that Denzil. There was a run up the hill and then elsewhere, but it was the morning we were leaving. I think Mr ET was sorely tempted but we didn’t really have the time.

It was a treat to wake up every morning to the view. I think at the end of this series I should do a post with all our views because each one was amazing.

I love how you’ve captured the mist unveiling!

Thank you Ting. It didn’t take long for the mist to clear away.

I wouldn’t mind building a little tiny cabin to write in on that hill. What a great morning…were you drinking coffee while watching?

We were in a little tiny loft over a stone barn while looking at the hill and yes, I was enjoying my morning coffee. It would be a very inspiring spot on which to write.

Oh…that sounds like the place I want to go, a stone barn with a loft above…and coffee!!!

It was beautiful except for the traffic noise from the main road. The beautiful view made up for that.
