Western Queensland Road Trip #15
We always figure if the locals are eating in a restaurant the food must be good but in the outback this theory doesn’t always apply.
Charleville’s most popular dining style is al fresco, next to the airport runway.
In Cunnamulla the school oval comes highly recommended. Dozens of galahs join the roos every evening.
Emus aren’t too fussy about the quality of their surroundings.
Honeyeaters have a favourite place where they like to hang out.
Some locals like to dine with a partner,
while others aren’t keen on sharing, especially when they’re on the lookout for a tasty treat.
They don’t need to be told twice to eat their greens,
especially if the restaurant is right on the water.
Some are in too much of a hurry to say where they’re going. Maybe they don’t want to be on the menu!
Love this, Carol. So, not so different from us humans, except for some who don’t want to eat their greens. 😃

That’s true. I can never understand people who aren’t fond of green foods. 🙂

PS just watched your video. Glad I am not the groundskeeper for the school oval!!

I expect they probably don’t clean up. It would be a thankless and daily task.

I wonder how many of your native creatures have not only lost their homes, but their lives. It must run into thousands, some which may never return.

More like millions at this stage, no way of knowing exactly. It’s been such a distressing time for everyone. There have been lives lost and more than a thousand homes, millions of hectares of precious bushland gone. Many places we’ve been to have been destroyed.

The after school activities are delightful, as are all those amazing birds!

My favourite birds are the galahs. They are so cheeky and animated.

Superb variety, Carol, though I do take Jude’s point. We are currently very worried for Meg. 😦 😦

Did you hear from her? Hopefully all is well in her part of the country. We have friends who had to evacuate but thankfully their home was saved.

Hi Carol- have you been away? (no posts lately) I’ve had a few messages from Meg. She was evacuated but then went home again. A lot of destruction all around but they were pretty lucky 🙂

Good to know Meg and her home are safe. It’s been a terrible time for so many. We’ve been on a long summer holiday and experienced the fires nearby at one stage.

I heard there were floods too, to compound the damage 🤨

Yes, in some areas and also hail storms and dust storms. It’s never ending.

That’s a fun post, I was actually expecting people sitting in a cafe 🙂

We did quite a lot of cafe sitting too but watching the animals was way more fun. 🙂

Those photos are brilliant, such wonderful colours. The kangaroos in the first one look a little suspicious, as if they’ve been discovered doing something they shouldn’t.

You might be right there. They’re probably not welcome because they don’t clean up after themselves. But it was the only green in town, so I’m not surprised it’s a favourite spot.

Great selection of birds topped (bottomed?) off with a beetle. The Whistling Ducks are my favourites 🙂

The ducks look quite grand standing on that log. They’re not big birds but they do look very smart.

Beautiful pics of the wildlife. Could you get very close or did you use a special lens?

Some were reasonably close up, but Mr ET does have a very good zoom.

Beautiful selection of photographs. Love all the birds. Especially the corellas. We were dumbounded this week when we got an email from a Spanish ornithologist who was staying in our little nest in Sri Lanka, as part of a home exchange. We were in his vacation home in Northern Spain two years ago. Anyhow, he identified 49 types of birds, right on our little property. Excited to get his list, as we tried in vain to identify many of those beautiful birds which woke us each morning with their beautiful bird songs, but it was too difficult for us neophytes.

We like to know the names of the birds we see, but sometimes they just move too fast.

It was the only grass in the whole town, probably watered so the children had somewhere nice to play.
