Square Perspectives Photo Challenge ~ Australian Landscapes #18
Destination: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory
Parliament House, meeting place of Australia’s Federal Parliament
Main Entrance
Main Foyer
Internal Courtyard
House of Representatives
Senate
Australia’s Coat of Arms
While our travel plans are on hold I’m joining in every day with Becky’s July Square Perspectives Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules are simple: photos must be square and fit the theme of perspective. My posts represent the definition of perspective as a vista – seeing something over distance or time.
Intrigued by all the pillars inside. Looks amazing but is it practical?!

Well, this is the foyer, so it’s the inside of the entrance and it leads to everywhere else. It’s meant to be a decorative room, a precursor to all the official areas.

I’d get very confused here!

Formidable building! The courtyard reminds me of the Mezquita in Cordoba 🙂 🙂 Happy weekend, Carol!

It’s a very impressive building and a guided tour is a must. Happy weekend to you too, Jo.

The building almost seems to grow out of the landscape. I love that internal courtyard and the main foyer. 🙂

It’s great that you think that Cathy, because that’s exactly the impression it’s meant to give. Much of the building is actually inside the hill on each side. The shape represents a boomerang.

I went on a guided tour during my first visit to Australia in 1998. Don’t remember that foyer though!

Interesting, never seen Canberra and the government buildings before. Very modern and a little soulless but as long as they do the job I guess they fit the bill.

I can see why you would think the building is soulless, but it really isn’t. I was wishing while I was doing this post that we’d taken more photos inside. The Great Hall is beautiful and there are many art works of significance to Australia’s history and indigenous perspectives. There’s also a gallery featuring every Prime Minister. The whole complex is full of symbolism and has a uniquely Australian feel. I can’t remember but wonder if photos weren’t allowed inside.

Be interesting to see what it’s like inside and how it feels full of people. Like the sound of the PM gallery, very interesting.

It is a beautiful building but don’t get me started on our politicians! Haha!

The good thing is the building is permanent, while those who work there aren’t. 🙂 I actually think in the current circumstances everyone is doing the best they can.
