Kind Squares Photo Challenge #17 ~ Queensland: One of a Kind
Destination: Surfers Paradise
Highrise towers line the iconic beachfront at the Gold Coast.
The newest addition to the area is the Jewel Tower complex, housing a five star hotel as well as luxurious private residences, shops and restaurants. It must be as impressive on the inside as it is on the outside.
This month I’m joining in every day with Becky’s October Kind Square Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules are simple: most photos must be square and fit the theme word “kind”. Look for #kindasquare.
Wow interesting looking buildings.

I think the architects really captured the jewel theme with these buildings.

I’m sorry but I think it’s an abomination, ruining the natural beauty. 🙂 🙂 You might guess, I really don’t like high rise!

While I understand your feelings Jo, I really have to disagree in this instance. In the broader context of the location of these buildings, in Queensland’s second largest city, they fit perfectly. The beaches of the Gold Coast are wide and vast, and the high rise buildings do not dominate. The Gold Coast is renowned as a luxury destination and these structures have been designed with that in mind. Australia has thousands of kilometres of unspoilt and undeveloped beaches, so those looking for a quiet holiday have plenty of choices. You probably wouldn’t go to the Gold Coast for a holiday but many people do, with the understanding of what is there.

whoa those are so tall!

Not as tall as some other buildings along the coast, but much more attractive than the straight up and down ones.

Much more attractive, although I’d still prefer to live in a single story one with a huge veranda!

Me too, although it has to be said the view from up in these buildings is stunning. Great for when you don’t live anywhere near the beach and want a fabulous holiday.

Impressive buildings, no doubt, but not my thing at all.

No, not everyone’s cup of tea but I loved how they looked. Very clever architecture.

You can see why they are called Jewel Towers.

Yes, I think the designers were very clever.

I’m with you here, I rather like the contrast of the wide open beach and the cluster of towers. It would be different if ALL beaches had them, but in the context of a resort such as this one I like them.
