I’m joining Becky in her July Square Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules of the challenge are simple: most photos must be square and fit the theme word tree. Look for #treesquare. Come with me on a Central Queensland road trip starring trees and the beautiful landscapes of my home state.
Minerva Hills National Park
When the wattle trees are in flower, the rocky slopes of Minerva Hills National Park look like they’ve been sprinkled with gold dust.
These are lovely! We have them here too, but not in such profusion.

I suspect they are being removed these days as they are an invasive species in Portugal. Really not good for the native plant life unfortunately, they do look very pretty though 🙂

I totally agree that they shouldn’t be growing where they’re not native. Invasive plants can be so damaging. The Australian bushland is full of plants brought from England and Europe and they’re difficult to control.

I just noticed the wattles are blooming in the bushland opposite my home. Lovely harbingers of spring.

Ours start flowering in mid-August.

Very pretty and reminds me of the Mimosa tree – have you seen one? They’re very popular in Italy and given to women on International Women’s Day or Mother’s Day – lovely.

Mimosa and wattle are the same plant. Mimosa is the name used in European countries for the trees which have been introduced from Australia. 🙂 That’s a lovely tradition.

The flowers are so delicate. Don’t get too close though. They’ll make you sneeze.

Stunning, as long as they stay in their native areas.

Wattles really are gorgeous and different varieties flower at different times of the year. It was a surprise to come across these because the wattles in our area start flowering in mid-August. They’re always a beautiful sight in winter.
