I’m joining Becky in her July Square Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules of the challenge are simple: most photos must be square and fit the theme word tree. Look for #treesquare. Come with me on a Central Queensland road trip starring trees and the beautiful landscapes of my home state.
Judds Lagoon
Just like Becky’s July photo challenge our road trip is almost over. This free camp at Judds Lagoon, just east of Yuleba, is one of our favourites and we arrive early enough to choose a nice spot beside the water.
Once the campfire is lit there’s nothing left to do but relax and enjoy the sunset. It’s the perfect way to spend our last night on the road.
wow what a sunset, those colours are gorgeous, and this sounds like such a wonderful spot

It is a great place to stop for a night and there are usually plenty of birds to watch too.

For a moment I thought it was a bush fire, Carol! Sensitive subject at the moment with high temperatures here.

No, this campfire was in a designated spot and carefully tended. I saw on the news this morning terrible fires in Turkey. So devastating.

Looks like a beautiful place to camp but it surprises me that camp fires are allowed.

Camp fires are perfectly fine if they’re in the designated fire pits and as long as there isn’t a fire ban. At that time of year and after a good wet season it was quite safe. The wood is supplied by the local boy scout group as a fund raiser.

Thank you Jude. I enjoy the challenge of making the photos fit the theme and finding ones that push the boundaries a little. It’s been nice to revisit this adventure. I’m glad you enjoyed it too.

It is lovely and it’s perfect for an overnight stop on either the first night or the last night of a trip in that direction. It’s about 3.5 hours from home.

Thanks Anabel. I enjoyed revisiting it too. We did it in May and haven’t been anywhere much since due to covid outbreaks. It’s nice to look at the photos again.

Me too! Wouldn’t that be a treat. We could toast some marshmallows on the fire.

You’ve seen so much of QLD you put me to shame! I’ve seen a lot of the coastline from when I lived on a sailboat. Love the photos.

There is so much variety within our state. And we have lots still to visit yet. Hopefully you’ll explore more in the future.

I hope so also but at the moment, it’s not looking very likely.

Miriam, this particular campsite is lovely. There are several along this part of the highway and we want to investigate the others in the future.
