7 Collections ~ Part Three

I’m joining Becky in her October Square Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules of the challenge are simple: most photos must be square and fit the theme word Past. Look for #PastSquares. This month we’re travelling back in time in the western Queensland town of Miles and surrounds. We’ll explore the local area and join in the festivities at the Miles Back to the Bush Festival.

The self-guided Collections Tour, where local residents open their homes to share their collections, is a popular event at the festival. Some collections are huge and multi-faceted while others are small and specific. Some are vintage objects, some are a little eccentric and some are just for fun. We’re still visiting Jan and today she’s invited us inside her home.

Along with her collections of family gowns and funky garden accessories, Jan also has a passion for vintage china. She uses all these beautiful pieces regularly; even the grandchildren use them when they come for afternoon tea. “If they learn how to handle precious objects, they also learn to appreciate them,” she says.

With all these settings, Jan could have the whole town at the table!

  1. What an interesting idea the collections tour is. I think it’s an excellent initiative. People do collect strange things, don’t they!

  2. Wow, what a lovely collection. In Exeter a woman’s group hosted a mother/daughter luncheon, each woman setting a table with her personal stock of good dishes. It was lovely!
