I’m joining Becky in her October Square Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules of the challenge are simple: most photos must be square and fit the theme word Past. Look for #PastSquares. This month we’re travelling back in time in the western Queensland town of Miles and surrounds. We’ll explore the local area and join in the festivities at the Miles Back to the Bush Festival.
Back to the Bush Street Parade
On Saturday the festival really gets going, with the Main Event taking over the arena at the Miles Historical Village. The day starts with a parade along the main street and the whole town is involved.
Riders from the Miles Horse and Pony Club lead the way.
Children from the local day care centre and volunteers from the SES wave enthusiastically.
Large decorated floats are followed by a long line of vintage vehicles.
A popular competition at the festival is the tractor pull – the entrants are already revving their engines.
The parade finishes with a spectacular display of whip cracking. We’re almost as impressed by his ability to stay upright on the back of the truck as we are by his whip cracking skills.
Something for everyone, Carol!

Pretty much, Jo. Lots to see and do all weekend.

I love the animals on the floats, especially the cockatoo, it looks huge. This is a parade I would have loved to take part in at one time, driving my vintage Fordson tractor, and I would definitely have had to do the tractor pulling – something my (ex) partner and I did several years ago 🙂

Those old cars had me drooling!

We would love to have an old car and go on rallies, tootling around the countryside with blankets over our knees. My brother in law has restored two Ford Model Ts. They are gorgeous. He rents them out as wedding cars.

I love the heavy horses. I miss the Agricultural Fair, can’t wait for it to come back after covid! Those old cars and tractors are just fantastic.

We’re lucky at the moment to have no covid in Queensland so, with the usual health expectations and conditions in place local festivals are going ahead this year. Mr ET really enjoyed the tractors.
