21 That’s Entertainment

Iā€™m joining Becky in her October Square Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules of the challenge are simple: most photos must be square and fit the theme word Past. Look for #PastSquares. This month we’re travelling back in time in the western Queensland town of Miles and surrounds. We’ll explore the local area and join in the festivities at the Miles Back to the Bush Festival.

This beautiful organ must surely have been considered a luxury item in a 19th century western Queensland home. Its entertainment value, in such a remote region, would have been priceless.

  1. Oh my goodness, we had an old pump style organ in the little Canadian country school I went to. I never gave a thought to how strange it was to have such a thing in our tiny school. There were many Russians in our area; Doukhobors who had fled religious persecution. They were very musical, and some of my fellow students spent many a lunch recess playing that old organ and singing Russian songs. I wish I had been aware at the time, of the significance of the many Doukhobors in the area.
