Queensland Road Trip, May 2022
Let’s go on a road trip! Come with us to Townsville and west on the Savannah Way to Karumba on an adventure in far north Queensland.
In the park across the road from the Railway Hotel in Ravenswood there’s a remarkable piece of public art; a wonderful mosaic chair created for the 150th anniversary of gold mining in the town. Each detailed panel tells a story about gold mining in the area, with scenes depicting people and activities from the past and the present.
Historic mining locations are listed on brass plaques, while images of old methods of finding gold contrast with modern technologies.
Even the local birds are included in this amazing work of art.

I am in awe of the artists who created this stunning display. Mosaic art is so beyond anything I can visualize let alone complete. Applause to these talented folks.

I can’t begin to imagine how it was all put together and it must have taken a very long time. We looked at it for ages, and we kept finding new things.

What a beautiful public artwork. And the fact that it has a time capsule just makes it even more special!

Isn’t the work amazing. I wonder how many of those children who created the time capsule will be there when it’s opened.

We were so impressed by the hours of work that must have gone into it, Yvonne. It was a beauty.

Finds like this make me wish I was still running the bench challenge. I love mosaics, and even better when it’s a seat.

I wish you were too! I have never stopped collecting benches.

I have so many bench photos. Every time I see a nice one or one with a beautiful view I think of you. 🙂

I wonder if I should host a month of benches.

That would be fun, just not the same month as Becky’s squares. She mentioned she might do the next one in November.

November wouldn’t work for me anyway as I will be on nursing duty again. Maybe in the new year.

These are fabulous, Carol. The work is so intricate. It sounds like you might get Hey Jude to start up another challenge. I didn’t know Becky was going to start squares back again. That’s wonderful. BTW, I didn’t find a link from this post to my PPAC Photographing Pubic Art Challenge. So that’s probably why I didn’t see it. I will link it to this week’s challenge, though. It is an amazing piece of art.

Becky said in her last post the other day she’s hoping to do a new squares challenge, but she’ll see how she’s going. My pingback for this post is here in your post. https://alwayswrite.blog/2022/09/09/ppac-63-a-day-of-public-mourning/

Awesome, I already added it to my collection for this week. That way people will see it. I was on vacation, I think and you might have posted it on Yvette’s. I need to do some more sleuthing. I tried to visit all of hers, but you know how it is when your sleuthing someone else’sblog on your phone on vacation. You’re more of a phone person than I am.
