SquareUp Photo Challenge: Camping at Carnarvon Gorge, October 2020 #29
Dozens of tiny red-browed finches call the bush around Carnarvon Creek home. They move at lightning speed, landing for a few seconds on the creek bank before flitting away again. They may be small, but when they gather in a flock you can hear them before you see them.
In January I’m joining in with Becky’s Square Photo Challenge over at The Life of B. The rules are simple: most photos must be square and fit the theme word up. Look for #SquareUp
I adore finches. We have quite a few around here, dear little darting things.

There are lots here too and they never seem to stop moving. I love watching them

Pretty little things! We have lots here too, but not that variety, I don’t think 🙂 🙂

You are right Jo you won’t have these in the Algarve. They cute birds are in South Australia only! You might be thinking of waxbills as they are in the Algarve (although they shouldn’t really be!!) and have the bandit look too

I’m not that observant, Becky! Well, not when it comes to birds 🙂 🙂 I always ask the Oracle. And he looks blank!

We have lots of different finches too. The ones around our place are dark grey with a black bar along their side.

Lovely flashes of red – not just red browed, but red bummed too it seems!

Such pretty shades of colour. At a distance I didn’t realize how pretty they were. Loved seeing those close up shots. Well captured!

You have such pretty birds. I wonder if these are what we saw in Kata Tjuṯa many years ago. Loads of little birds that were very noisy, but hard to photograph.

Probably not. This one only lives on the eastern side of the country. There are many different types of finch though. Where I walk every morning there is a big flock of finches with a black bar along their side. They move so fast.

Aww yess!! Birds never cease to amaze me- their different colors and calls. I think they force you to slow down a little and take enjoyment from the small things in life.

We certainly spend a lot of time watching birds in the bush.

What has been your favorite kind of bird, so far, to watch? I’m especially keen to the Cardinal and Blue Jay!

We have lots of parrots – lorikeets, pale headed rosellas, budgerigars, and they’re always very entertaining. My favourite Australian bird is the galah.

Tiny is good. How’s Mr. August doing, speaking of tiny? He’s such a smiley little guy.
